ALL THREE MENS’ SINGLES PROGRESSED TO THE NEXT ROUND

Macau Open Superseries semi-finalist, Goh Soon Huat won his first round match today against local, Riyanto Subagja at the Yonex Sunrise Indonesia Masters Grand Prix Gold. The Malaysian however needed to win the match in three games after losing in the second one. He eventually won, 21/16, 20/22, 21/13 to meet Qiao Bin of China in the second round. His main hurdle will be in the third round where he is expected to meet top seed, K. Srikanth of India for a place in the quarter-finals.

Teammate, Soo Teck Zhi was also through to the second round after having to dispose Indonesian, Saputra Alvindo in three games. The 20 year-old Teck Zhi who is hoping to do well here has not been in a good form in his last three tournaments losing in the early stages. He faces another Indonesian, Mahbub Thomi Azizan in the next round. Iskandar was the third mens’ singles to progress to the next round after his win over Redy Perdana, 21/12, 21/14. In the womens’ singles, Tee Jing Yee had an easy path against Jauza Fadhila Sugiarto, the younger sister of Indonesia ace, Tommy Sugiarto winning the match, 21/16, 21/16 but Lim Yin fun was shown the exit by World Championships’ bronze medalist, Lindaweni Fanetri  in two games.

There were also good news in the doubles department when the scratch pair of Low Juan Shen/ Tan Kian Meng continued their fine run to advance to the second round. Although they have a tough match tomorrow when they face fourth seeds, Angga Pratama/ Ricky Karanda Suwardi, the duo are capable of pulling off an upset. However, there were disappointment for Teo Ee Yi/ Ong Yew Sin who crashed out today.

As for another new pair, Lai Pei Jing/ Chow Mei Kuan were impressive in their match against the more experienced Richi Puspita Dili/ Rizki Amelia Pradipta despite this being just their third tournament together. They defeated the Indonesians 18/21, 26/24, 23/21 in a tough match that lasted for more than an hour. In addition, Mei Kuan will have to take good rest as she will also be in action tomorrow with her mixed doubles partner, Wong Fai Yin.
