Top womens’ pair, Vivian Hoo/ Woon Khe Wei and Lee Chong Wei were the only two survivors to make it to the second round of the Yonex Denmark Open Superseries in Odense. Vivian/ Khe Wei were too strong for Heather Olver/ Lauren Smith of England while Lee Chong Wei had no problem overcoming his Indian opponent, P. Kasyap.
The former world number one will next play Wei Nan of Hong Kong and he is expected to progress to the quarter-finals where one of his toughest challenge awaits him, Chen Long of China. The duo last played against each other during the finals of the World Championships back in August where the Chinese had the upper hand against Chong Wei. It will be tough but a win will surely boost his confidence in the upcoming tournaments.
However, as for Amelia Alicia Anscelly/ Soong Fie Cho and Goh V Shem/ Tan Wee Kiong, it was unfortunate as they could not follow the steps of their teammates yesterday. Despite the defeat, both pairs displayed fighting spirit against their higher ranked opponents losing the match in a very close margin.
Amelia Alicia Anscelly/ Soong Fie Cho were defeated by Ma Jin/ Tang Yuanting 17/21, 23/21, 19/21 in a thrilling match that lasted for more than an hour. Goh V Shem/ Tan Wee Kiong suffered the same fate when they came so close of beating the world number 4, Mathias Boe/ Cartsen Morgensen of Denmark 15/21, 21/19, 20/22. Chan Peng Soon/ Goh Liu Ying had earlier lost to Koreans, Ko Sung Hyun/ Kim Ha Na on Tuesday.
