The last two tournaments for national number one, Lee Chong Wei has not been the results that he was expecting. In the Japan Open last week, he was beaten by his longtime rival and Olympic champion, Lin Dan while at the Korea Open that begin today, he was shown the exit by a lower ranked player, Heo Kwang Hee of Korea, 19/21, 19/21 in the first stage of the qualifying round.
Although it is very unusual for the former world number one to lose at this stage, it does not mean that this unfortunate even is yet continue. He is an experienced player and he is also aware that the next few months is very crucial for him to qualify for the Olympics. Thus, knowing Chong Wei, he is surely going to work on his weaknesses and come back stronger in the next tournament.
In the mixed doubles event, both pairs from Malaysia bowed out in the first round. Tan Aik Quan/ Lai Pei Jing went down to Dutch pairs, Jacco Arends/ Selena Piek while Russian Open champions, Chan Peng Soon/ Goh Liu Ying lost their match to sixth seed, Lu Kai/ Huang Yaqiong of China in three games. It is now left to mens’ doubles pair, Tan Wee Kiong/ Goh V Shem who will take on locals, Jun Bong Chan/ Kim Dae Eun in the first round tomorrow.
