HARD LUCK FOR BOY’S DOUBLES PAIR IN BANGKOK

As the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining, Malaysia’s junior boy’s doubles pair faced that same situation. Although it was the end of the road for Ooi Zi Heng/Soh Wooi Yik at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in Bangkok, the pair has certainly stamped their mark as one of the top four pairs in Asia.

Zi Heng/Wooi Yik who were quarter-finalist in last year’s edition went one step further to make it into the last four, however, it was unfortunate that they were beaten by the same pair they lost to last year. Han Chengkai/Zhou Haodong of China defeated the Malaysians 21-15, 21-17 to meet top seed, also from China, He Jiting/Tan Qiang in the finals tomorrow.

According to BJSS coach, Kwan Yoke Meng, there are still room for improvement for Zi Heng/Wooi Yik.

“The Chinese pair were stronger in terms of their speed and power. However, tactically, our players were better but it was not good enough as they faced difficulties to cope with their strength. We will work on improving in these areas as we have three more months to prepare for the Badminton World Junior Championships (WJC). I am also confident that Zi Heng/Wooi Yik will be able to do well at the WJC,” said Yoke Meng after the match.

The boys will have a chance to avenge their defeat when they prepare for the WJC that will be held in Spain in the first week of November this year.
