ISKANDAR & SOON HUAT ARE FAVORITES TO WIN AT NATIONAL GP FINALS

The MAYBANK National Circuit Grand Prix Finals 2015 will begin from the 17th -20th December which is tomorrow at Juara Stadium, Bukit Kiara. Among the favorites to clinch the title in the mens’ singles category are Iskandar Zulkarnain and Goh Soon Huat.

Both players have fared equally well this year with Iskandar winning three international titles in the Level 4 of the world badminton tournament structure which are International Challenges and International Series. On the other hand, although Soon Huat is yet to win a title, he was the semi-finalist at the Dutch Open Grand Prix and Macau Open Superseries which are Level 3 and Level 2 respectively and also higher than the Level 4 in terms of the points offered and prize money. Hence, it will be an exciting match if both players make it to the finals.

However, talented players like Soo Teck Zhi, Soong Joo Ven and independent players like Tan Chun Seang and SEA Games silver medalist Mohd Arif Abdul Latif are also title contenders. There will be four groups in the mens’ singles with only the champion of the group qualifying for the semi-finals. As for the doubles department, in the absence of top pairs, Goh V Shem/ Tan Wee Kiong, Vivian Hoo/ Woon Khe Wei, Amelia Alicia Anscelly/ Soong Fie Cho and mixed doubles pair, Chen Peng Soon/ Goh Liu Ying who are currently competing at the Mexico City Grand Prix, the field is wide open and this is also a good opportunity for other pairs to prove their worth on court.
