During the council meeting, Tan Sri also added that the preparation for the Olympic is going smoothly and players are injury free. In terms of the target, he mentioned that there is no any specific target but since Lee Chong Wei is currently in the top position, BAM is looking at him making it at least to the finals.
“We have all spoken to Chong Wei and he has mentioned that he played bridesmaid in the last two Olympics, hence his personal target is to win a gold in this year’s edition. The next best players we believe has the potential to go far is mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying who has been beating higher ranked players lately.”
“However, at the end of the day, it also depends on the player’s draw and their performance on that day,” said Tan Sri to reporters.
Besides speaking regarding the Olympics, Tan Sri also mentioned that there will be changes made to the national junior tournaments next year. There will be two U-18 and U-21 circuits which consist of five categories. These tournaments will offer national ranking points while there will not be a Grand Prix Finals.
As for the usual National Junior circuits, it will now be U-12, U-14 and U-16 only. Fifteen states including Putrajaya will be divided to three zones with each zone consisting of five states and the players will then qualify for the Grand Prix Finals.
It will not be just two zones as how it was in the previous years as players from Peninsular Malaysia will have the opportunity to play against players from Sabah and Sarawak even before the National Junior GP Finals.
