A great day again to see that three players have checked into the quarter-finals of the Yonex Dutch Open Grand Prix. Goh Soon Huat displayed an impressive game to overcome Kestutis Navickas of Lithuania yesterday evening, 21/13,21/17.
His teammates, Iskandar and Soo Teck Zhi also won their respective matches in straight games. Iskandar faces the recent runner-up of the Victor Korean Open Superseries, Ajay Jayram of India while Teck Zhi will challenge against Emil Holst of Denmark.
Soon Huat will next face the more experienced Jaochim Persson of Denmark later tonight. Although the Dane has been in the badminton scene for a long time, Soon Huat is capable of winning the match based on his match consistency. Moreover, he is aware that he stands a very good chance to improve in his world rankings if he continues to play well.
Currently ranked 96 in the world, the 25 year-old Soon Huat does have some catching up to do knowing that his teammates, Iskandar and Teck Zhi are ranked higher than him. The Melaka born player’s best achievements this year was a semi-finals finish at the Austrian Open International Challenge and OUE Singapore International Series and a quarter-finalist at the SKYCITY New Zealand Open Grand Prix Gold.
