Surabaya – Tee Jing Yee and Soo Teck Zhi successfully checked into the semi-finals of the Victor Indonesia International Challenge while Daren was shown the exit by youngster, Jeon Hyeok Jin of Korea. Daren lost the match in straight games , 11/21, 16/21, this being his first meeting with the 20 year old Jeon Hyeok.
While it was sad news for Daren, Soo Teck Zhi gave Malaysia the cheer when he eliminated top seed from Indonesia, Firman Abdul Kholik in a hard fought three games match that lasted for almost an hour and thirty minutes. Teck Zhi has been performing well this year despite injuring his knee and taking a two-month break from badminton. The 2013 Asian Junior champion has been working very hard to come back and he surely has proved it after his splendid performance in last month’s OUE Singapore International Series taking the silver medal and today, making it to the semi-finals.
Teck Zhi will be up against the more experienced Sony Dwi Koncoro of Indonesia tomorrow. Sony is one of Indonesia’s best player winning the bronze medal in the 2004 Olympic and a runner-up at the 2007 World Championships.
As for Jing Yee, she was made to slog before prevailing against her Indonesian opponent, Rusydina Antardayu Riodingin, 21/7, 11/21, 21/16. She will next face Korean, Kim Na Young in the semi-finals tomorrow.
