YEN MEI MARCHES INTO QUARTER-FINALS IN TAIWAN

When she was first told that she will be competing in bigger tournaments this year, Ho Yen Mei’s worry was she may not be able to handle the pressure knowing that her opponents are tougher and more competitive.

The Kuala Lumpur born lass who won the Polish International Challenge last year and had a number of semi-finals finish was given the green light to compete in Grand Prix tournaments with the intention to expose and build her physically and mentally.  

 

“I did struggle early of this year having lost in the first round of most of the tournaments and it was really demotivating. However, I realized that I have to step up and now is my only chance to do it.”

“Although this is just the quarter-finals stage, I’m happy to make it thus far. It will indeed be an uphill task to defeat second seed, Tai Tzu Ying tomorrow, but I am going to give my best as there is nothing to lose,” said Yen Mei after her match against Korean, Lee Jang Mi today.

 

In other matches, Iskandar scraped a narrow win over former national, Liew Daren in a match that lasted for more than an hour. He won the match, 23-21, 19-21, 23-21 to meet Khosit Predpradap of Thailand in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

Malaysia’s top two mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying and Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing were also through to the last eight after enjoying an easy win against their respective opponents.

 

As for V Shem/Wee Kiong, the pair overcame teammates Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi and awaiting them in the next round are fifth seed, Zheng Siwei/Huang Kaixiang of China.
