YEW SIN HOPES TO IMPROVE WORLD RANKING WITH PARTNER, EE YI

He made his first Thomas Cup debut this year in Kunshan, China with partner Teo Ee Yi and Ong Yew Sin believes that this is just the beginning of his career. The breakthrough came when the pair performed exceptionally well during the Thomas Cup qualifiers last March.

The Melaka born player is certainly going to work harder to become the nation’s best pair after Tan Wee Kiong/ Goh V Shem.

At the moment, former nationals, Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong are the second best pair in the country and Yew Sin is hoping that Ee Yi and him will play well in international tournaments to improve their world rankings. The pair is currently ranked No. 101 and it is mainly because they were just paired up a few months ago.

“We are confident of breaking into the top 100 but we are not going to stop there. Our main target is to perform well in bigger tournaments and since Ee Yi and I have just partnered for three tournaments, there is still a lot to learn and improve,” said Yew Sin after his match at Juara Stadium.

At the Celcom Axiata National Circuit First Leg, Yew Sin is competing in two events. The duo proved too strong for Ooi Zi Heng/Soh Wooi Yik defeating the pair easily, 21/14, 21/14 in just 24 minutes last night.

The pair will meet independent shuttlers, Jagdish Singh/Nur Mohd Azriyn in the semi-finals today. If they win, awaiting them in the finals tomorrow will either be Hoon Thien How/Teo Kok Siang or Mohd Zakry Ab Latif/ Muhd Hafizi Hashim.

Yew Sin has also qualified for the mixed doubles event with partner, Peck Yen Wei and they face Tan Chee Tean/ Chow Mei Kuan in the last four.

The pair did well this year at the Romanian International emerging as the runner-up and another good results here will possibly see Yew Sin playing two events in the finals.
