Tan Sri Mohamed Al-Amin Abdul Majid was at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this morning to welcome national number one and the newly crowned French Open champion, Lee Chong Wei. Tan Sri who is currently the acting president in the absence of Y.M. Tengku Tan Sri Dr Mahaleel was accompanied by BAM’s Honorary Secretary, Ng Chin Chai and general manager, Kenny Goh.

Tan Sri wanted to be there this morning to congratulate the two-time Olympic silver medalist on his achievement after the latter put up a superb performance in Paris to clinch his first superseries title after an eight months break that saw him returning to the badminton world in May this year.

“I am really pleased with Chong Wei’s achievement knowing that he has come a long way since his return in May. It is not easy to get back to his former glory of being the world number one but I can see that he is headed in the right direction. Winning the French Open is also a motivation for him that nothing is impossible if you work hard and have the determination”, said Tan Sri at KLIA this morning.

Chong Wei should be praised for his never give up attitude and perseverance to continue striving despite receiving negative comments on whether he is still capable of being Malaysia’s hope of bringing a medal at the Rio Olympics next year. This was due to his recent fall at three superseries tournaments in the last two months. The highest he could achieve was a second round finish but today he definitely has silenced the crowd.

The month of November will see the 2014 Asian Games bronze medalist having a tight schedule when he competes at the China and Hong Kong Open superseries followed by Macau Open GP Gold. However, Chong Wei is expected to be well prepared ahead of these tournaments.
