It is always a memorable moment when you have the Minister of Youth and Sports paying a surprise visit just to show his love and support for the badminton team.
Despite his busy schedule, Yang Berhormat Khairy Jamaluddin took some time off to give a pep talk to players who will be leaving for Kunshan, China for the 2016 Thomas/ Uber Cup.
YB expressed his passion and even said that badminton is the number 1 sports in Malaysia based on the results produced. As for the upcoming Thomas/ Uber Cup, his main advice was for them to do their best regardless of which team they face.
“Two years ago, we almost won the Thomas Cup and not many expected us to make it to the finals but we did it. So, anything can happen and all I need is for you to do your very best.”
“The whole nation is behind you and I hope you will show the world what is Malaysian badminton all about and what are we capable of achieving. I also want you to take each coming day as the best day of your life and show the best you have,” said YB while talking to the players at Juara Stadium this evening.
The others who were also present were BAM’s acting president, Tan Sri Mohamed Al-Amin Abdul Majid, deputy president, Ybhg. Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria and BAM’s honorary Secretary, Ng Chin Chai.
The team will leave on Wednesday morning to Kunshan, China and the competition will begin on May 15. The Thomas Cup team is in Group C along with Korea, England and Germany while the Uber Cup team are drawn in Group A with reigning champions, China, followed by Denmark and Spain.
