Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying and Soong Joo Ven bowed out in the last eight of the Australian Open signalling the end of Malaysia’s challenge in Sydney, this evening.

A month after an astute display against Indonesia’s Praveen Jordan-Melati Oktavianti in the New Zealand Open final, third seeded Peng Soon-Liu Ying’s hopes of back-to-back titles were halted by the same foes 18-21 20-22 in 42 minutes.

National No. 2 men’s singles, Joo Ven on the other hand saw his fine form stopped by a resurgent world No. 4, Chou Tien Chien of Taiwan 14-21 8-21.
