BAM CLINCH FOUR TITLES AT NATIONAL U-21 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) sealed four out of the five 2018 Celcom Axiata National Under-21 Championships titles at stake at the Penang BA Hall in Bukit Dumbar, yesterday.

Fresh off their historic Dutch Junior Open win earlier this month, Pearly Tan-Toh Ee Wei were crowned as champions in the women’s doubles category with minimum fuss overcoming Terengganu-Perak partnership of Hazair Hazwani-Desiree Shan in straight set 21-12 21-17. Pearly then went on to double her tally by teaming up with Chang Yee Jun to defeat teammates, Yap King-Gan Err 21-17 10-21 21-11 in a 35-minute mixed doubles final duel.

Wyman Wai Yap-Kok Jing Hong recovered to power past Kuala Lumpur duo Chee Feng-Zulman Zulhaidee 16-21 21-11 21-19 in the men’s doubles category. Eon Qi Xuan meanwhile won the women’s singles title after her opponent, Negeri Sembilan’s Ng Xi Xuan retired due to a twisted knee.

21-year old Penang-born Yeoh Seng Zoe stood in the way of a BAM clean sweep by clinching a 21-16 21-16 win in the men’s singles final over BAM youngster, Ng Tze Yong.
