The first organizing committee meeting for the upcoming Malaysia Open Superseries Premier 2016 was held at Holiday Villa, Subang Jaya this morning to discuss on the preparations ahead of the most prestigious badminton tournament in Malaysia which will be held from 5-10 April 2016.
The meeting that was chaired by BAM’s Honarary Secretary, Ng Chin Chai was also attended by representatives from various departments that will be working hand in hand in making this tournament a successful one. As some are aware, the venue of the Malaysia Open had to be changed to Malawati Stadium as Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil is undergoing some major renovations in preparation for the 2017 SEA Games (Southeast Asian Games) where Malaysia will play host for the biennial games.
There were few main topics discussed during the meeting and one of it was the announcement on the official title sponsor and that Maybank will not be in the picture for this year’s edition. According to Chin Chai, BAM cannot reveal the details yet.
“We are not able to disclose any information regarding our title sponsor for this year’s Malaysia Open at the moment. However, we are 99 percent sure that we will receive a positive answer. We will most probably be able to announce after the 21st March as there are still some finalization that needs to be done,” said Chin Chai.
BAM’s general manager, Lawrence also mentioned that it is challenge when a title sponsor changes as it is not just about the tournament only but it involves almost everything from the player’s attire till the printing of tickets.
Besides that, as this is the third year for Malaysia to host the Superseries Premier event, assessments will carried out by Badminton World Federation (BWF) to determine if Malaysia will be selected once again to host the Premier event for the next four years which begins from 2018-2021.
Therefore, BAM is hoping that with the help from the respective parties, the Malaysia Open this year will be a successful event.
