The Malaysian women’s team has qualified to the Uber Cup finals in Aarhus, Denmark from May 16-24.
And they did it in some style, by beating Chinese Taipei 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Asia Team Championships.
A determined Soniia Cheah set Malaysia on the road to the finals, with a strong 21-14 17-21 22-20 win against Pai Yu Po.
Chinese Taipei levelled through Hsu Ya Ching-Hu Ling Fang’s 21-14 21-14 result against Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean.
Malaysia proved their mettle by scoring two consecutive points through Goh Jin Wei and Pearly Tan-M Thinaah's hard-earned wins over Chian Ying Li (21-23 21-8 21-12) and Cheng Chi Ya-Liu Chiao Yun (18-21 21-17 21-18).
The victory set up a rematch against top seeds, Japan in the semifinals tomorrow.
This is also the first time that the Malaysian women’s team has qualified to the Asia Team Championships semifinals since its inauguration in 2016.
