The commanding 35-year-old shuttler’s glittery performance in the Hong Kong Open final against Olympic champion, Chen Long last week helped him close the gap with current world champion, Denmark’s Victor Axelsen with 73,624 points and 79,580 points respectively.
Promising youngster, Lee Zii Jia, 19, who was nominated in BWF’s Most Promising Player of the Year Award on Wednesday, moved up one spot to 43rd to cement his status as National No. 2.
The other biggest movers were Malaysia’s leading women’s doubles pair, Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei climbed up two rungs to 15th spot while Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean leaped four spots to 20th place.
