The Chinese Taipei Grand Prix will begin today at the Hsing Chuang Gymnasium. The Malaysians players from BAM will be in action tomorrow as they have been drawn to compete in the main draw. In the mens’ singles event, Liew Daren with two of his teammates, Lim Chi Wing and Chong Yee Han is expected to progress to the next round. Daren plays against Nicholas Bonkowsky of Trinidad & Tobago and a win will see him meeting either Lim Chi Wing or Kanta Tsuneyama of Japan.
Lim Yin Fun and Lim Chiew Sien who had a six weeks training stint in Europe will be the representatives in the womens’ singles event. Chiew Sien who was the runner-up at the Polish International Series will face a higher ranked player Fitriani Fitriani of Indonesia while Yin Fun will have to battle with 2nd seed, Chen Jiayun of Singapore who is currently ranked in the top 50.
In the mens’ doubles, Malaysia will have Teo Ee Yi/ Tan Wee Gieen and Low Juan Shen/ Ong Yew Sin while womens’ doubles will be represented by Goh Yea Ching/ Yap Chen and Lim Yin Loo/ Lee Meng Yean.
As for the mixed doubles event, Tan Chee Tean/ Shevon Lai are seeded second and they have received a bye in the first round. They will meet the winner between Korea and Chinese Taipei for a place in the quarter-finals. The other pair, Tan Kian Meng/ Peck Yen Wei are hoping for another good performance here after their fine show at last week’s Vietnam International Series.
