All three players, Iskandar Zulkarnain, Goh Soon Huat and Soo Tech Zhi won their matches in contrasting style to make it to the third round of the Yonex Dutch Open Grand Prix. They had to play two matches each yesterday and the results could not be any better when all three were consistent in their performance to win their respective matches.
Soo Teck Zhi did not show any sign of fear playing against a more experienced player who is also ranked higher than him. His opponent in the second round, Pablo Abian from Spain is a player who has been playing in the senior level for more than 10 years and an Olympian himself but that was not enough to overcome the energetic Teck Zhi losing the match in three games, 15/21, 21/17, 14/21.
Goh Soon Huat did not face much challenge in his first two rounds and he will next meet Kestutis Navickas of Lithuania tonight for a place in the quarter-finals. As for Iskandar, he will play against Ville Lang of Finland instead of Malaysia’s independent shuttler, Zulfadli Zulkifli after the latter suffered a shocking defeat to the Finnish player in three games yesterday.
