KUCHING: Sarawak badminton fans are simply fantastic.

In anticipation of the Lee Chong Wei-Lin Dan final at the Malaysian Open at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya, an additional 500 tickets were churned out and snapped up within an hour.

Hundreds of fanatical fans had queued up at the ticket counter from 1.30am Sunday with the counter opening only at 10.30am.

Many were left disappointed.

The tickets for the final were sold at RM60 but some ticket touts even were selling it for RM550.

An estimated 4,500 spectators will watch the finals.

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM)'s secretary Datuk Ng Chin Chai was beaming with pride.

"Initially, BAM was unsure of fans support in Kuching for the Malaysian Open.

"However, the sell-out crowd in the last three days proved that there are huge fan base here," said Chin Chai.

"To thank the fans, who were outside without tickets, we arranged for live broadcast of the matches on the big screen outside of the stadium," he added.
