Malaysia’s determined challenge in the Indonesian Open ended in the last four this evening as Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing crashed out in Jakarta.

The country’s leading pair, Peng Soon-Liu Ying’s aspirations of reaching their second consecutive final were stopped by China’s Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping 13-21 20-22. The world No. 2 had earlier beaten another Malaysian pair, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai in the quarterfinal stage.

World No. 16 Kian Meng-Pei Jing’s valiant run was halted 12-21 16-21 by the reigning world champion, Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong of China.

Meanwhile in the men’s singles event, Lee Zii Jia’s brilliant form that included a famous win over his idol Chen Long was dashed by Denmark’s world No. 11 Anders Antonsen 16-21 11-21.

Up next for the Malaysian squad is the Japan Open, scheduled to start on Tuesday in Tokyo.
