World No. 5 Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying’s spirited title challenge was halted by long-time rivals, Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping of China.
Yilyu-Dongping took 31 minutes to seal a straightforward 21-10 21-6 win in the semi-final tie in Tokyo, this afternoon.
It was their fourth straight victory against the Rio Olympics silver medallists in six meetings. Peng Soon-Liu Ying had won the first two encounters.
For the record, the country’s leading mixed doubles duo reached quarterfinals in nine out of 12 events they competed this year.
Malaysia’s marauding men’s doubles, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik had earlier conceded defeat 14-21 24-22 15-21 to world No. 1 Kevin Sukamuljo-Marcus Fernaldi in the quarterfinals stage.
Up next for the Malaysia squad will be the Thailand Open on Tuesday in Huamark Indoor Stadium, Bangkok.
