Tee Jing Yi stayed on course for her second finals in the international arena after prevailing against teammate, Ho Yen Mei at the TATA Open India International Challenge 2015 today. The match that saw both players fighting for every point was indeed a thrilling match which ended in rubber games and the eventual winner being Jing Yi. The match that lasted for more than an hour was the second longest match in the semi-finals event today.

Jing Yi is surely hoping to clinch her first international title after falling short at the Victor Indonesia International Challenge to Gregoria Mariska of Indonesia in the finals. Currently ranked 37 in the world, she has to win here in India to help her qualify for her second Olympics appearance next year. She will next face Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand whom she has lost two years ago during the Australian Open.

In the mens’ singles however, Soong Joo Ven was forced to concede a walkover in the second game to his Indian opponent, Sameer Varma after suffering from an ankle injury he succumbed three weeks ago at the Malaysia International Challenge in Alor Setar.

“It was unfortunate that I could not play today. I tried ignoring the pain but my ankle was already swollen and I had no choice but to retire as the pain was also getting worse. I really hope that I’ll b be able to recover in the next few days to compete in the Maybank National Circuit Grand Prix Finals 2015 which begins next Thursday in Juara Stadium,” said the disappointed Joo Ven.

Lim Chi Wing was another casualty after he lost his match to Saurabh Varma of India in the semi-finals.
