Joo Ven became the sole survivor at the Maybank Malaysia International Challenge Badminton Championship after his teammates faltered in the semi-finals this afternoon. Joo Ven defeated the more experienced Iskandar today, 21/13, 21/19 in a match that saw both players battling each point with long rallies and sideline smashes. Both players played equally well but the victory belonged to the 20 year-old Joo Ven who was very consistent throughout both games.
“I am really happy that I defeated Iskandar today. I’ve lost to him three times this year and winning here today is really sweet. I knew that playing with Iskandar can be very tiring but I stayed focus and I just wanted to fight till the very last point.
In the finals tomorrow, I’ll be playing against Khosit Pretpradap of Thailand whom I have also played during my junior days. We have played thrice against each other with the last match played during the 2012 Thailand International Series in which I defeated him in three games. However, its three year now and we both have improved. Therefore, I am going to give my very best tomorrow,” said Joo Ven in Alor Setar.
In the womens’ singles, Ho Yen Mei failed to progress to the finals after losing to Dinar Dyah Ayustine. The boys’ doubles and mixed doubles also suffered the same fate, hence only having one finalist in Alor Setar.
