Double delight for Yap Roy King at the Celcom Axiata Malaysia International Junior Open in Putrajaya, this evening.

The 17-year-old shuttler proved his mettle to win both the men’s and mixed doubles categories in dominant fashion.

Roy King was first crowned as the men’s doubles champion alongside long-time partner, Ooi Jhy Dar in the final encounter against teammates two years their junior, Fazriq Razif-Justin Hoh.

Despite the valiant efforts of their marauding opponents, Roy King-Jhy Dar were rarely troubled and managed to seal a straight set 21-14 21-14 victory in a fast-paced affair.

The Muar-born King then won the mixed doubles title with Gan Jing Err through a straightforward 21-11 21-12 win over Ghana Muhammad Ilham-Berliona Pradisa.

The win marked the national pairs’ first ever international crown.

“These title wins certainly helped with my confidence to do well in the upcoming international tournaments,” said Roy King.

King along with Jhy Dar and Jing Err will next compete at the India International Junior GP starting next week (29 August).
