Although she joined the national junior squad in March this year, she has proven to be one of the best doubles player. Teoh Mei Xing’s dream of donning national colors finally came true when she was called up by BAM early this year. To makes things sweeter, she was selected to represent the country in two events at the World Junior Championships that will be held in Lima, Peru next month. Mei Xing will partner Goh Sze Fei in the mixed doubles and Anna Cheong Ching Yik in the girls’ doubles.
The 18 year-old has been producing good results throughout the year, winning the KL Open Division 2 title as well as the Under-18 girls’ doubles category. Besides that, she was also a finalist in the recently ended Malaysian Maybank Malaysia International Youth U-19 and a semifinalist at the Jaya Raya Indonesia Junior International Challenge.
According to the Selangor born lass, her family and state coach, Dannan Jaya were her main supporters. Although Mei Xing was aware of her achievements, she did not expect her name to be in the list of players for the World Junior Championships.
“When I heard that my name was in the list, I was overjoyed. After all, it is the biggest and most prestigious tournament in the junior level. However, I do not want to stop here as I have set my target for the World Juniors. I want to at least reach the quarter-finals stage in my mixed and girls’ doubles,” said Mei Xing.
The National U-18 champion currently trains under Fairuzizuan Tazari and she hopes to make it to the back-up squad next year.
