Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon/ Goh Liu Ying continued their fine run to make it to the quarter-finals of the China Masters Grand Prix Gold in Jiangsu, China today.
Despite winning their match, the pair were stretched to three games by their Chinese opponents, Zhu Junhao/ Zhou Chaomin 22/24, 21/12, 21/13.
“We could not really play in the first game due to our lack of focus. We struggled to study their game but thankfully, we were quick to bounce back. We do realize that we cannot afford to do the same mistake tomorrow as our opponents are equally good,” said Liu Ying
The 2015 SEA Games silver medalist will next meet another pair from China, He Jiting/ Tan Qiang whom they have only played once during the same tournament last year where they won the match against the Chinese pair.
“Although we have defeated this pair before, we cannot underestimate them and all we want to do is give our best and make sure that we stay consistent,” added Peng Soon.
Peng Soon/ Liu Ying clinched the New Zealand Open Grand Gold title in March and they were also the finalist at the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open Superseries Premier two weeks ago during which the world No 11 stunned Olympic and world champions, Zhang Nan/ Zhao Yun Lei in the semi-finals before eventually losing to Ahmad Tontowi/ Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia in the finals.
