PENG SOON/ LIU YING TO MEET ENGLISH COUPLE, CHRIS/ GABRIELLE ADCOCK

The Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold saw three doubles pair advancing to the quarter-finals. Chong Wei Feng and Tee Jing Yee however could not join their teammates when they lost to higher ranked players in the second round early this morning.

Wong Fai Yin/ Chow Mei Kuan were also shown the exit by Michael Fuchs/ Birgit Michels of Germany in two games. Chan Peng Soon/ Goh Liu Ying made a good start after defeating Peter Kaesbauer/ Franziska Volkmann of Germany, 21/17, 21/18 to meet English couple, Chris Adcock/ Gabrielle Adcock who has been very consistent in their performance throughout the year. They have thus far competed in at least 14 tournaments with nine quarter-finals finish and five semi-finals finish. Hence, an exciting match is expected between these two pairs.

National No. 1, Goh V Shem/ Tan Wee Kiong are expected to progress to the semi-finals when they battle against Japanese pair, Takeshi Kamura/ Keigo Sonoda later tonight. The Malaysians have beaten them once during last year’s Thomas Cup and a win will see them meeting the winner between top seeds, Mads Conrad-Petersen/ Mads Pieler Kolding and Kasper Antonsen/ Niclas Nohr of Denmark.

Vivian Hoo/ Woon Khe Wei will play against Heather Olver/ Lauren Smith of England. The 2014 Commonwealth champions who are currently ranked 10 in the world will have to do well in Germany to maintain their rankings or further improve in their game.
