SHAH ALAM: Malaysia's No 1 shuttler, Datuk Lee Chong Wei and national champion Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin have lighted up the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam in the on-going Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open. The duo have been well supported and the numbers are expected to rise when they play their second round matches today.
Chong Wei plays Son Wan Ho from South Korea while Iskandar will face Jan O Jogensen.
It was nearly midnight when Iskandar won his match against Indonesia's rising star Anthony Ginting but it was heartening and heartwarming to see a band of supporters staying on to cheer the Malaysian.
It was no different in Penang in January this year at the Malaysia Masters. Iskandar played "Abang" Chong Wei in the final with both having their own band of supporters. Chong Wei triumphed as expected but Iskandar showed his potential.
Iskandar will be aiming to stage an upset against Jorgensen to claim a place in the quarter-finals. With his renewed confidence and the home support he has, Iskandar could just pull off a surprise.
