SOON HUAT-SHEVON CLINCH SECOND TITLE WIN IN STYLE

In a true ‘David vs Goliath’ encounter, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai rose to the occasion to defeat Olympic champions, Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia.

The world No. 8 pair pulled off a stunning upset 21-19 21-18 in just 36 minutes over the reigning world champions in the mixed doubles final of the Singapore Open at Singapore Indoor Stadium, yesterday.

Soon Huat-Shevon sealed the impressive feat without dropping a single set throughout the tournament a month after a disappointing Malaysia Open first round exit.

Mixed doubles head coach, Pang Cheh Chang was pleased with the marked improvements of his charges.

“They lost some confidence because of first round exits in Malaysia Open and Indonesia Open, we sat down and discussed our strategy to rediscover their style of play and understanding.

“Ultimately, they regained their rhythm, sense of control, tactical analysis and composure in every round throughout the tournament,” Cheh Chang told www.bam.org.my.
