Malaysian singles players, Soo Teck Zhi and Goh Soon Huat, cruised past their opponents from Chinese Taipei with relative ease in the second round of the Skycity New Zealand Open today.
Teck Zhi, a former Asian junior champion, hardly raised a sweat as he disposed of Australian Low Pit Seng 21-8, 21-6 in just 26 minutes. Teck Zhi, ranked 16th here, will face fourth-seeded Hao Hsu Jen from Chinese Taipei in the next round.
Goh Soon Huat, seeded 10th, also had a good run today as he defeated Chi Yu Jen of Chinese Taipei 21-17, 21-18. Soon Huat will have a tough third round tie against Lee Dong Kuen of South Korea next.
Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, top Malaysian pair of Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying, the third seed here, made their way past Chinese Taipei's Chang Ko Chi-Chang Hsin Tien 22-20, 21-15 in just over half-an-hour.
Another Malaysian in action today was Liew Daren but he dropped out after going down the the top seed, Son Wan Ho of South Korea. The Korean was held up for 38 minutes before winning 21-14, 21-17.
