V SHEM-WEE KIONG ADVANCE TO THE QUARTER-FINALS, CHONG WEI DROPS OUT

NEW DELHI: Malaysian doubles duo of Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong advanced to the quarterfinals of the India Open Superseries as Datuk Lee Chong Wei fell in the second round of competition here yesterday.

 

The doubles pair eased past China's Wang Yilyu-Zhang Wen 21-18, 21-16 to book their place in the quarters where they will face Danes Mads Conrad-Petersen-Mad Pieler Kolding.

 

The fourth seeded Danish duo defeated Thais, Bodin Issara-Nipitphon Puangpuapech 21-7, 21-16. 

 

Meanwhile, Chong Wei, the topseed here, dropped out of contention after going down to China's Wei Nan 21-19, 21-19 in 42 minutes. 

Another singles star to crash out yesterday was China's Lin Dan, the recently crowned All-England champion. He went down to South Korea's Son Wan Ho, who is a former India Open winner, 21-13, 22-20 in just under 50 minutes.
