It is now left to womens’ doubles pair of Vivian Hoo/ Woon Khe Wei to continue the journey at the Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold in Germany as two other pairs from Malaysia lost in the quarter-finals yesterday. Vivian/ Khe Wei did not have an easy path playing against the English pair, Heather Olver/ Lauren Smith winning the match in three games, 16/21, 21/16, 21/9.

The pair stands a very good chance to make it to the finals when they meet Poon Lok Yan/ Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong later tonight. They have only played once three years ago and the match was won by the Hong Kong Chinese in a tough match. However, based on their current performance in the last two years, the Malaysian girls have been doing well reaching a career high of No.10 in the world. The 2014 Commonwealth Games champion will now need to stay focus to win their first title of the year.

In the mens’ doubles, it was surprising to see the national mens’ doubles pair crashing out yesterday. Goh V Shem/ Tan Wee Kiong could not get their acts together against the Japanese pair of Takeshi Kamura/ Keigo Sonoda losing the match, 21/15, 21/16.

The 2014 Asian Games bronze medalist will have work on their early defeats in last few tournaments to come back stronger in the China and Hong Kong Superseries next month. Mixed doubles pair of Peng Soon/ Liu Ying were the other casualty when they lost to the husband wife pair of Chris Adcock/ Gabrielle Adcock of England, 13/21, 21/15, 12/21.
