Top national women’s doubles pair, Vivian Hoo/ Woon Khe stormed their way in to the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open Superseries Premier in Jakarta today with a convincing win over 2014 Asian Games gold medalist, Greysia Polli/Nitya Krishinda Maheswari in two games, 21-17, 21-19. Joining them are three other Malaysians, World no. 2, Lee Chong Wei and doubles pair of Tan Wee Kiong/Goh V Shem.
Vivian/ Khe Wei played an excellent match today and they also avenged their defeat to the Indonesians whom they lost too last April during the Badminton Asia Championships in China.
“Although we won in two games, it was still a tough match especially in the second one when we were neck and neck up to 19-19. I think the both of just wanted to focus on the last two points as we did not want the match to end up in a rubber game.
“I am glad Khe Wei and I pulled it of this time and we hope to stay consistent in our next match against another Indonesian pair, Anggia Shitta Awanda/Mahadewi Istirani Ni Ketut. They may not be ranked in the top 20 but the have been progressing well and we do not want to take them for granted,” said Vivian after her match today.
In the men’s singles, Lee Chong Wei did not face any difficulties defeating his opponent from Hong Kong, Angus Ng Kah Long, 21-10, 21-13 in just 30 minutes and he faces Wang Zheng Ming of China tomorrow.
The world No.2 has a good chance of clinching the title in the absence of Chen Long and Lin Dan who was shown the exit today by Indonesian youngster, Jonathan Christie.
As for Wee Kiong/V Shem who defeated former nationals, Koo Kian Keat/Tan Boon Heong today, the pair will face Chai Biao/Hong Wei in the quarter-finals tomorrow. Both pairs have met each other five times with the last two matches siding the Malaysians. A win will see them meeting the winners between Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda of Japan and Mads Conrad-Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding of Denmark.
