It was certainly national shuttler, Chong Yee Han’s day when he marched into the finals of the MAYBANK National Circuit Grand Prix Finals 2015 held at Juara Stadium, Bukit Kiara. It is also his first appearance in the semi-finals and finals of the national tournament as in the past years, he had lost in the group stage itself.

In addition, he had two very tiring matches from yesterday, yet, he persevered till the end. In yesterday’s group stage match, he defeated Chin Wai Kin in 54 minutes while today was another marathon for the Melaka born player who had to win in three games, 16/21, 22/20, 21/19 in a match that lasted for an hour and six minutes.

The unheralded Yee Han who has not been performing up to the mark in the last one year was delighted with his win today against Goh Soon Huat.

I am really happy to play in my first finals and defeating Soon Huat was surely a sweet victory for me knowing that he is my senior and the fact that I have never beaten him in almost two years. In the first game, I played a very defensive game, however, I started attacking more in the second and third game and I continued attacking as the new strategy was working. Moreover, the pressure was more on Soon Huat instead of me because of his experience and achievements.

When asked on his targets for next year, Yee Han’s main goal is to be is to be as competitive as other foreign players as he do realize that age is catching up and his performance were also not very impressive. He faces top seed, Iskandar Zulkarnain in the finals tomorrow.
