A New look at BAM Tournament Calendar for 2017

Expect a more vibrant and exciting tournament calendar for 2017 lined up by the BAM Tournament Committee to ensure better participation in the various age groups catering for budding players who want to achieve excellence in their badminton career.

 

A number of new competitions at both senior and the junior levels are in store as seen in the 2017 BAM Calendar, completely with the title sponsors, tournament dates and venues.

BAM International Tournaments 2017

A new event, the Malaysia International Series 2017 has been scheduled from 11 – 16 July 2017 has been added to the normal four international championships organised annually by BAM, namely:

Malaysia Masters (Part of BWF Grand Prix Gold Series)

Malaysia Open (Part of BWF world Superseries Premier)

Malaysia International Junior Open 2017 (previously for U 19)

Malaysia International Challenge

 

BAM National Tournaments 2017

– National Championships (Kejohanan Kebangsaan)

The current National Grand Prix Circuit comprising of two national circuits, also known as State Opens, with one Grand Prix Finals, has now been changed to one tournament named BAM National Championships as of 2017, providing much bigger prize money (RM266,000.00) to attract the nation’s best players in all categories.

 

This will be done on a knock-out two-tier format, as shown below, based on qualification and players’ current World Ranking position:

– National Championships Under 21 

– National Championships Under 18

To cater for budding younger players, BAM has now introduced the above two championships to be done twice for both the age groups as seen in the 2017 calendar above. The date and venue have been determined, with a total prize money of RM 20,000 each for the Under 21, and RM 15,800 each for the Under 18.

– National Junior Circuits

The age group for the National Junior Circuit has been reduced to 3, catering for Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16, whilst the Under 18 carry on separately by itself.

The draw to determine state grouping was done during BAM tournament Committee Meeting on 18 October 2016 and the Host organisers has also been determined, as shown in the tables below. The ranking and seeding were based on the Number of participants from each state in the Junior Circuit Grand Prix Finals 2016 recently.

The National Junior Inter-state Team Championships U12 & U16

The above Inter State Team Championships has been changed from the usual Under 12 and Under 15 Championships as of 2017. The venue and the dates of the championships haave benn determined as for the Calendar above.
