The 100PLUS Junior Internal Ranking Play-offs competition ended today with five players gaining ‘promotion’ and where they are now being classified in a new group as compared to when they started their campaign in the BAM Junior Internal Ranking competition two weeks ago.

Men's singles Anson Cheong, who was the champion of group B last week, ended the Playoff competition as the champion of group A/B.

Even though Anson had to concede to a 16-21, 21-18, 19-21 loss to Jan Jireh Lee in his final group game today,  the two wins he recorded previously – over V Poopathi (21-16, 21-19) and Chua Kim Sheng (21-13. , 16-21, 24-22) – ensured his final classification.

"Yesterday's match was a bit difficult for me and that was why I was a little tired today. Of course I am happy with this result but I have to improve further especially when I face the senior players,” said Anson.

While Poopathi completed his campaign in the Playoffs in second place to cement his position in Group A, Chua Kim Sheng and Jan Jireh Lee will fill the positions in Group B.

On the other hand, Kong Teck Joon was promoted to Group A for the 2022 selection session after occupying the second spot in Group B/C behind champion Lok Hong Quan.

Teck Joon defeated Muhammad Faiq 21-18, 13-21, 21-18 to collect one point from one win and one defeat while Hong Quan recorded two wins yesterday after beating Teck Joon (21-12, 21- 16) and Muhd Faiq (23-21, 21-19).

Teck Joon was the runner-up in Group C during the BAM Youth Internal Ranking 2 weeks ago.

In the meantime in Group C/D, Aaron Tai and Yeow Chun Cher emerged champions and runner-up as they maintained their position in Group C in the national youth rankings.

Aaron Tai defeated Yeow Chun Cher 22-20, 21-15 to maintain an unbeaten record in all three matches played.

In the Women’s Singles, Carmen Ting stole the show in Group A/B when she emerged runner-up in the group and was promoted to Group A.

In today's match, she defeated Siti Zulaikha Muhd Azmi 21-17, 21-18 to be on the same two points as champion Chan Wen TSe.

"I played with more control today and tried to reduce mistakes. Last week, I was less focused when facing her (Siti Zulaikha) and made a lot of mistakes.

"Of course I'm happy to win but I need to train harder, especially on my foot work," said Carmen.

Over in Group B/C, Chong Jie Yu emerged champion and was also promoted to Group B even though she lost 23-25, 19-21 toTan Zhing Hui in her last match today.

The 100PLUS Internal Ranking Playoff is a continuation of the second BAM Internal Ranking tournament which took place last week where it served as a platform for evaluating players and determining their position in the group for the national youth camp.
