National junior Eogene Ewe celebrated a 'revenge' victory over Thailand's Panitchapon Teeraratsakul in the PETRONAS Malaysia International Series men's singles competition here in Arena Badminton Perak, Ipoh today. 

The 17-year-old Eogene stunned the 14th seeded Thai 21-15, 21-13 to secure a precious place in the quarterfinals. Today's win was especially sweet for the Perak-born Eogene. At the recent World Junior Championships in Spain last month, Eogene's brave run ended at the hands of Panitchapon.

He will now face China's Lei Lan Xi who defeated Malaysian Ong Zhen Yi 21-9, 22-20 in another third round match today.

Another Malaysian who exited the tournament today was Lee Shun Yang, who lost 14-21, 21-16, 21-15 to 12th-seeded Yohanes Marcellyno.

There was a surprise in the mixed doubles as Ng Eng Cheong-Teoh Le Xuan got the better of their seeded compatriots Lim Tze Jian-Desiree Siow. Eng Cheong-Le Xuan, who got through the qualifying rounds,  won 21-7, 21-18.

In another all-Malaysia mixed doubles tie, Loo Bing Kun-Yap Cheng Wen overcame Ng Jhi Hao-Wong Lily 21-12, 21-8.  

Justin Hoh who had battled furiously, along with Bryan Jeremy Goonting-Lee Xin Jie, Yap Roy Kig-Valeree Siow were among some of the Malaysian players who went down today.

The quarterfinals will be staged tomorrow.
