Malaysia’s young charges continued their impressive form this time around sealing three titles at the Spanish International.
Debutants, Tee Kai Wun-Teoh Mei Xing capped their solid campaign with a win over third seeds and heavy favorites, Callum Hemming-Jessica Pugh 21-17 21-16.
In the all-Malaysian women’s singles final, S Kisona edged out teammate, Goh Jin Wei 21-14 21-19.
"For a start, it was definitely a tough final with Jin Wei, but I think we did our best," said Kisona.
"I am pleased to win the title, but I believe there is still a lot more for me to improve. This win here has given me renewed confidence going forward.
"I want to thank my coaches; Indra Wijaya and Loh Wei Sheng for being patient with me, and I hope to keep doing well in the future."
Kai Wun then doubled his tally for the night with a men’s doubles title alongside Man Wei Chong by powering past French pair Lucas Corvee-Ronan Labar 21-15 21-18. The win marked their second career title after the Polish Open in March.
"I am happy and excited to win two titles this week, especially since winning the men's doubles event was our target," said Kai Wun.
"To be honest, I am more of a men's doubles player, and I do not focus on mixed doubles. My success in the mixed doubles here was quite a bonus. Mei Xing and I hardly train together. This is only our first tournament together, and our opponents were quite strong.
"My target now is to improve on my men's doubles ranking with Wei Chong. We want to play in Super 500 events and try to get into the world's top 64 as fast as we can. To do that, we need to take our chances and deliver results whenever we can."
