Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) President, Tan Sri Dato' Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, confirmed today that he will continue in his role.
"I want to thank YB Yeoh and her guidance also for her request for me to stay on. After careful consideration and discussion with the BAM Council, I have decided to remain as President."
Norza emphasized that his dedication lies in national service. He clarified that his primary focus is on preparing the national badminton team for the Olympics.
"This is to ensure stability during the critical phase as we prepare for the Paris Olympic. The goal is the same to secure our first gold medal for Malaysia," stated Norza after presiding over the BAM council meeting on Saturday at the PETRONAS Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.
"At the moment, the Council does not want me to specify when my tenure will end. As you know, my tenure is until 2025, so we will leave it as it is.
"Making an announcement could divert attention from our core business, which is the high performance of the sport, and I want to avoid any unnecessary focus on its politics."
Norza added, "We will keep the succession plan on hold for the moment until it is suitable to discuss it again."
