Tournament Sanctions

Introduction

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is the governing body responsible for ensuring that the sport of badminton in Malaysia is conducted in accordance with the standards set by BAM and BWF.

Tournament sanction regulations to ensure that tournaments that are organised in Malaysia and open to public participation will be played under Laws of Badminton as published by the BWF as well as other rules and regulations promulgated by BAM.

Types Of Tournaments That Require Sanctions

All badminton tournaments organised in Malaysia must be sanctioned by BAM and/or the State Badminton Association.

For the purposes of sanctioning, badminton tournaments are categorised as follows:

Level Category Definition
State Junior Tournament is only open to players under 18 years old and those from one (1) state only.
Adult No age limit to participate in the tournament. Participation is limited to players from one (1) state only.
National Junior Tournament is only open to players under 18 years old. Participation is open to all Malaysians. No foreigners.
Adult No age limit to participate in the tournament. Participation is open to all Malaysians. No foreigners.
International Junior Tournament is only open to players under 18 years old. Participation is open to Malaysians and foreigners.
Adult No age limit to participate in the tournament. Participation is open to all Malaysians and foreigners.

 

Sanction Exemption?

Closed badminton tournaments that are not open to the members of the public to participate are exempted from any sanctions being imposed.

i.e. ‘ABC Sdn. Bhd. Inter-Department Badminton Tournament’, ‘Hari Sukan DEF Sdn. Bhd.’
