A historic moment for Malaysia as the national mixed doubles junior ended the nation's 19-year wait for an Asian Junior Championship gold medal.

Second seeds Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal and Low Zi Yu capped off an impressive run from the opening rounds by capturing the title in Yatsushiro.

Facing China’s unseeded pair Wei Gang Zheng-Li Meng Han in the final, Redzuan-Zi Yu began with a dominant display to lead 21-15 in the opening game.

The Chinese pair responded strongly in the second game to bounce back, but Redzuan-Zi Yu remained composed to halt their comeback.

With the score tied at 20-20 and the match hanging in the balance, the Malaysians held their nerve to claim the next two points and seal a memorable 22-20 victory.

The straight-sets triumph secured Malaysia's first mixed doubles title at the Asian Junior Championships since Tan Wee Kiong and Woon Khe Wei in 2007.
