Leading national women's doubles, Pearly Tan-M Thinaah rose to the occasion on the final day of the Games by trouncing homesters, Lauren Smith-Chloe Birch 21-5 21-8 in Birmingham here today.

Much to the delight of the adoring away fans in the National Exhibition Centre, the world No. 11 pair had little trouble to sweep past the English duo.

Thanks to the heroics of Pearly-Thinaah, the Malaysian contingent has now surpassed the six-gold target set for Birmingham 2022 and equalling the seven-gold feat achieved in Gold Coast, four years ago.

Debutants Pearly-Thinaah are now only the fifth Malaysian pair to win gold in the event after Ang Li Peng-Lim Pek Siah (2002 Manchester), Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty (2006 Melbourne), Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei (2004 Glasgow) and Chow Mei Kuan-Vivian Hoo (2018 Gold Coast).
