National singles ace, Ng Tze Yong came within a whisker away from defending Malaysia's gold medal at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games after going down fighting against nemesis, Lakhsya Sen of India.

Tze Yong got off to a flying start with offensive displays coupled with solid defence in the first set 21-19.

A highly spirited Tze Yong fought tooth and nail in the second and third but was unable to secure the much needed win losing 9-21 16-21 in an epic finale.

Nevertheless, it was a solid campaign for the Johor-born Tze Yong. Coming in as a late substitute for Lee Zii Jia at the Games, the World No. 42 singles shuttler defeated reigning world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore and World Championships silver medallist K. Srikanth of India en route to the final.
