Malaysia’s two seeded pairs defied formidable opposition to book their places in the finals, putting themselves within touching distance of the title.
Stunning top seeds and World No. 1 Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae of Korea, World No. 4 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik displayed confidence and composure to seal a straight-games victory in just 38 minutes.
The win squared their head-to-head record at 3-3, mirroring their consecutive straight-games victory over Kim-Seo during the BWF World Championships semi-finals in August.
However, in mixed doubles, Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing’s promising campaign was cut short by China’s World No. 1 Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping, going down 13-21, 13-21.
Meanwhile in women’s doubles, second seeds Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah achieved a significant milestone by returning Malaysia to the final for the first time since Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty captured the title in 2008.
Pearly-Thinaah sealed their place in the final with a convincing straight-game win over China’s sixth seeds Bao Li Jing-Cao Zi Han, winning 21-16, 21-14 in just 37 minutes.
Chia-Soh will next face Indonesia’s World No. 3 Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, while Pearly-Thinaah prepare to battle Japan’s unseeded Hinata Suzuki-Nao Yamakita for a title decider.
