Ten Malaysian representatives continued their quest for glory in Ipoh, with semi-final berths at stake in the last eight. 

Lim Min Hong-Stella Pan prevailed in a closely fought match during the all-Malaysian mixed doubles clash, edging out Juan Jeremy Zhen Liang-Low Yeen Yuan (21-12, 18-21, 23-21). 

Lau Yi Sheng-Yap Rui Chen staged a comeback after dropping the opening game to eighth seeds Liew Xun-Valeree Siow, winning the next two games to seal a 20-22, 21-18, 21-17 upset in another all-Malaysian mixed doubles encounter.

Yi Sheng-Rui Chen have once again secured a semi-final berth at the same tournament, repeating their 2024 feat when they were competing as a new pairing.

Fifth seeds Choong Hon Jian-Wong Vin Sean survived a tense opening game against Japan’s Yuto Nakashizu-Yuta Takei, edging 22-20 before cruising through the second game 21-11 to seal a clinical straight-game victory.

Hon Jian-Vin Sean came into the tournament fresh from their first-ever international title together at the Philippine IC 2026, having claimed the breakthrough in just their third appearance as a pair since the Thailand Open 2026.

Vin Sean admitted that today’s opponents were a tough challenge despite their straight-game victory.

“In the first game, I think we played more relaxed and composed, taking it point by point while making the most of our opportunities to attack,” said Vin Sean.

Meanwhile in men’s doubles, Goh Boon Zhe-M. Fazriq Mohamad Razif produced an upset against Japan’s sixth seeds Kazuki Shibata-Naoki Yamada.

Boon Zhe-Fazriq pulled off a hard-fought three-game victory in only their first appearance as a newly formed pair, edging the opening game 21-19 before losing the second game 19-21 and wrapping up the decider 21-15.

Fazriq expressed his gratitude after securing a victory over a higher-ranked opponent, while reminding each other to stay positive under pressure.

“We stuck to our coach’s advice and strategy, focusing on turning our opponent’s weaknesses into our strengths,” said Fazriq in a post-match interview.

He also stressed the importance of concentrating on their execution on court rather than simply thinking about winning the match.

Fourth seeds Beh Chun Meng-Choi Jian Sheng, however, suffered a shock setback after bowing out to seventh seeds Naoya Kawashima-Kota Ogawa of Japan, going down 13-21, 9-21.

The sole representative of men’s singles, Lim Min Hong also came up short against India’s third seeds Rithvik Sanjeevi Satish Kumar despite securing the opening game 21-13, before eventually falling 20-22, 18-21. 

Boon Xin Yuan-Lwi Sheng Hao got the better of Lau Yi Sheng-Ooi Zhi Heng after a gruelling three-game battle in yet another all-Malaysian men’s doubles affair.

Xin Yuan-Sheng Hao completed the comeback with a 22-24, 21-19, 21-18 victory after one hour and 19 minutes action.
