The PETRONAS Malaysia International Series 2026 intensified on Day 5 as players battled for places in the finals.

Irfan Shazmir-Genevie Lim advanced to the mixed doubles final after defeating Thailand’s second seeds Thanadol Yunmongkol-Nattamon Laisuan 21-13, 13-21, 21-19 in a thrilling 53-minute encounter.

Shazmir expressed his delight after reaching the final with new partner Genevie.

“After scoring the final point, I was quite in disbelief as it was beyond my expectations to beat the second seeds while partnering Genevie,” he said.

Genevie admitted it took them time to adapt to the court conditions, particularly the wind, before settling into their rhythm.

Both Shazmir and Genevie also credited their coach, who constantly reminded them to keep fighting until the final point without giving up.

Lau Yi Sheng-Yap Rui Chen also booked their place in the mixed doubles final after overcoming fellow Malaysians Damien Ling-Teh Xin Ying 21-19, 17-21, 21-13 in 45 minutes.

In the men’s doubles, Isyraf Hafizin-Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal edged past fellow teammates Damien Ling-Irfan Shazmir 21-19, 16-21, 21-14 in a 48-minute semi-final.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Razeeq Danial cruised into the final after defeating Indonesia’s Denis Azzarya 21-14, 21-7 in just 36 minutes.
