The PETRONAS Malaysia International Series 2026 concluded today at Arena Badminton Perak, Ipoh, with Malaysia claiming two titles on home soil.
In the mixed doubles, Irfan Shazmir-Genevie Lim claimed their first title together after defeating fellow Malaysians Lau Yi Sheng-Yap Rui Chen 21-18, 21-15 in 31 minutes.
Both Shazmir and Genevie expressed their gratitude towards each other after securing the title.
“I still felt nervous, especially before reaching the 11th point, but after scoring a few more points, the nervousness faded away,” said Shazmir.
Genevie said they would use the victory as motivation to continue improving ahead of future tournaments.
“I think I can still improve my consistency and strength, so I will keep on working hard in training,” she said.
Shazmir also shared his ambition of winning a medal at the upcoming World Junior Championships.
In the men’s singles, Razeeq Danial was crowned champion after defeating fellow Malaysian Muhammad Haziq 17-21, 21-12, 22-20 in a hard-fought 52-minute final.
In the men’s doubles, Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal-Isyraf Hafizin finished as runners-up after falling to fellow Malaysians Lau Yi Sheng-Lee Yi Bo 20-22, 20-22 in a 34-minute final.
