The Malaysian women's team faced a 4-1 defeat against Thailand in their last Group Y match of the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) today.

Despite finishing second in the group, Malaysia is set to meet Indonesia in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

In a disappointing turn of events, two-time former world junior champion Goh Jin Wei lost 21-13 26-24 to Supanida Katethong, despite having a better head-to-head record.

Malaysia's No. 1 women's doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah faced a tough battle and ultimately succumbed 20-22 21-15 21-19 to world No. 10 Jonkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai.

Malaysia's hope of securing the top spot in the group dwindled when K. Letshanaa lost 21-17 21-18 to Thai veteran Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

In the second doubles, the scratch combination of Tan Zhing Yi and Teoh Mei Xing succumbed 21-17 21-18 to Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard.

20-year-old Wong Ling Ching showed her mettle to secure the team's solitary point with a 21-19 15-21 21-16 victory over Pornpicha Choeikeewong in the final singles match.
