The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirms the unanimous election of YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz as its 13th President during the 80th Annual General Meeting held today. Tengku Zafrul, Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, assumes leadership of BAM with a resolute commitment to elevate the sport both nationally and internationally.
In his first address as President, Tengku Zafrul expressed profound gratitude to the BAM Council for their trust and support. He emphasized his dedication to steering Malaysian badminton to greater heights, leveraging his extensive experience in both the public and private sectors.
“This is a great honour, and I will shoulder this trust with full responsibility and determination to ensure Malaysian badminton continues to shine on the world stage,” said Tengku Zafrul.
To formulate a comprehensive and effective roadmap for the sport's development, Tengku Zafrul has initiated a 100-day engagement period. During this time, he plans to consult with key stakeholders, including players, coaches, staff and sponsors, to gather insights and perspectives.
“I believe listening to all voices involved in Malaysian badminton is key to building a realistic and effective plan. After the 100-day period, I will present a comprehensive vision together with the BAM leadership team,” he added.
In reinforcing the leadership team, BAM is pleased to announce the re-election of Datuk V. Subramaniam as Deputy President 1 and Dato' Sri Dr. Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos as Deputy President 2.
BAM extends its heartfelt appreciation to outgoing President Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria for his invaluable leadership and unwavering commitment over the years. His legacy has laid a strong foundation for future endeavors.
